When you first read about Big Marie. It was of the bootlegging story. When we last left Big Marie, she was alone and left with her kids and her grandkids to raise. She was living on a parcel of land on Skyview Drive. Her property was flat and on a slightly rising ground. It seemed to me like that flat land was always red dirt with no trees.

Big Marie was known to take in men occasionally. Now, these men were mostly drifters and drunks. She would have them for a month or two and then run them off. Marie had a “tween” daughter. Tweens of both sexes are usually aged from about 11 to 14.

One day, the radio received a call of a death at Big Marie’s trailer. Was it Big Marie? Did her heart just pop?

The investigation would find that the daughter claimed that she had been molested by her mother’s boyfriend/stepfather for a few years in her childhood and tween times. She had decided that she had had enough and went to the closet and removed a shotgun. While her stepfather was asleep/passed out in his and Marie’s bed. She entered the room and aimed a shotgun at her stepfather’s head and pulled the trigger. And she was in real close when she did it. Grisly.

I believe she was around 15 to 16 at the time of the killing because “I heard” that it went to a Grand Jury instead of the Juvenile Court Judge to hear. That would mean she was charged as an adult and not a juvenile. I heard that the Grand Jury returned a verdict of (No Bill). Therefore, all charges were dropped by the citizens of Douglas County when they heard the evidence presented.
